A Series of Systems is an on-going project that explore the facts and theories pertaining to the development of the Universe. Mixed among millions of churning and expanding systems, Earth’s evolution and the development of all matter results from series of hierarchical systems that break down to complicated atoms and molecules. This series of images symbolically depict the ever expansion of the space beyond Earth; the intricacies, that often seem as if by chance, have brought civilization to its current point in time; and the complex makeup of unfathomable space and matter on a macro and micro scale.

Each individual image is a system of photographic elements, which are a result of placing segments of binary code from a variety of digital photographs into the binary code of one overexposed photograph. These crosshatched sections of representational data that depict small glimpses of natural and urban environments, weave together to form an abstract, non-representational image that references a state of energy and development that has existed in the universe from the beginning of time. The placement of each segment is anticipated, yet resoundingly unpredictable. The color of each segment is dependent on each original photograph’s color combined with the manipulation of binary code of files in two color modes: CMYK and RGB. This allows for a limited spectrum of color representation that is also predictable yet unexpected, allowing for forces of chance to have a hand in the creation process.
